Students of 10-11 grades of secondary schools have the opportunity to choose subjects

Starting from the third quarter of the 2019-2020 academic year, as an experiment in secondary schools, varied curricula for students of 10 and 11 grades will be introduced. That is, students will have the opportunity to choose the subjects taught. This experiment will last until the end of the 2019-2020 academic year.

The experiment on the introduction of varied curricula in secondary schools will be carried out in accordance with the order of the Minister of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that the introduction of varied curricula is envisaged by the “road map” of the Concept of development of the public education system of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030, approved by decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The purpose of introducing variable curricula is to provide students with the opportunity to study in depth subjects of interest to them, prepare for entrance exams of universities, etc.

It is important to note that the introduction of variable curricula is voluntary and the introduction of schools will take into account the presence of highly qualified and experienced teachers.

It is forbidden to introduce variable curricula in secondary schools in the following cases:

– disagreement of students, teachers and parents;

– the lack of teachers with sufficient qualifications and experience to teach subjects in a variable curriculum.

The choice of direction in the class will be determined by interviewing students of 10-11 grades. In this case, one student can choose only one direction.

In schools, a special commission will be created to conduct a survey among students and summarize the results. The commission will include the deputy director for educational work, a psychologist, chairmen of methodological associations and the chairman of the parent committee. At the same time, parents of students and teachers in relevant subjects (except for the chairman of the parent committee and the chairmen of methodological associations) are not allowed to be included in the selection committee.

To ensure public scrutiny, members of the School’s Supervisory Board can participate as observers to ensure transparency in the survey process and summarizing data.

If, according to the results of the survey, the number of students who expressed a desire to study in the corresponding class exceeds 35 students, in such cases the students will be enrolled in the corresponding class based on the results of examinations in the relevant subjects.

If in the corresponding class the number of students will be no more than 35 students, they will be enrolled in this class without exams.

The following directions are offered for the organization of optional classes:

first direction: foreign languages and philology;

second direction: finance and economics;

third direction: technology;

fourth direction: natural sciences;

fifth direction: social and humanitarian.

The curriculum of the optional class is compiled by the appropriate methodological association and the deputy director for academic work on the basis of the direction approved by the Pedagogical Council of the school.

When developing a varied curriculum for an experimental class, the total number of hours allocated to 10-11 grades in the basic curriculum for the 2019-2020 academic year is taken into account. The total number of hours per week is 30 hours in the 10th grade and 31 hours in the 11th grade.

As a result of the introduction of varied curricula, the number of compulsory subjects for students in grades 10 and 11 is reduced from 15 to 8. In the process of testing this curriculum, subjects such as mother tongue and literature, Uzbek / Russian, and a foreign language, history, mathematics, computer science, the basics of spirituality and physical education will be taught.

The number of hours of compulsory subjects should not be less than the number of hours indicated in the basic curriculum (19 hours in the 10th grade and 19.5 hours in the 11th grade).
